AC Milan have identified Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott as a target, with the club viewing him as a possible successor to Luka Modric next summer.

Scott, born in 2003, is considered an intriguing prospect, with real technical quality and a growing media profile. He is currently valued at €50m, and that price is expected to climb further by the end of the season. Milan remain in the race regardless of the obstacles.

If a deal happens, Scott would become the 11th Englishman to play for Milan, a club whose story began with one.

Herbert Kilpin is credited as a central figure in Milan’s founding in 1899.

Jimmy Greaves followed many years later. The Tottenham great never settled under coach Paron Rocco.

Luther Blissett was a flop. The striker arrived with the promise of plenty of goals but scored only six times for the club.

Ray Wilkins left far better memories, even if his spell was not a lucky one. Mark Hateley is also fondly remembered, having decided a derby after Milan’s return from Serie B.

In more recent years came David Beckham, who made a strong impression at the club before a serious injury ruled him out of a World Cup.

The current generation includes Fikayo Tomori, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tammy Abraham. Omari Hutchinson would have joined that list, but he chose to represent Jamaica.

Scott could be next.
